Typically, there are ten (10) players on a team. The team may have up to six (6) substitutes on the field at any one time. If a substitute is used, it must make contact behind the line of scrimmage. A team must have at least six players on the field to forfeit two points. It may play with no penalty if a team has six players or more on the field at one time.

The First Pass is a move that allows the ball to be brought into play immediately after a change of possession. This could be a forward pass, or a knock-on. If the forward pass is successful, the player might be able to catch it over the line and run the ball backwards with forward momentum. A knock on is a move that brings the ball into play but does not necessarily result in a touchdown.

The roll ball acts to restart play after each touch. This action is not necessary unless the ball has been removed from the hands. It is prohibited to roll the ball for more than a meter. A player also cannot run the ball beyond bounds. If a player has the ball in his possession and it is dropped from his hand, he must immediately throw the ball to another player. Although a player can move to the best position for support in front of his teammates, he may not score.

The most crucial part of the game is its touch count. Each team has six chances to touch the ball. The ball must be returned to the spot where it was touched. The ball is considered dead when a player touches the ball prior to a touchdown. For the attacking side, the touch count starts over.

The position of a player in possession at touch time determines the touch count. A player who is onside at a defending scoreline is allowed to lean over the scoreline to touch the attacking player, but the player in possession of the ball may not do this. The ball can be touched by defending players when it is passed to them. However, this does NOT count as a touch. The touch must be returned by the player who is in possession of the ball, regardless if he is standing or not.

The touch count also varies by position, and a player may be given leeway by the referee. A player at the sideline can be touched prior to a touchdown but cannot touch it in the ruck. This is true if a defending team member makes a forward or knocks off pass but cannot interfere with the possession of the player.
